Kiln Building!

From May 14-24 I attended a kiln building workshop run by Aaron Nelson at the Medicine Hat Historic Clay District.  It was loads of fun and a great experience.  Two kilns were made during the course, a gas fired salt kiln, and a gas fired soda kiln.  Medicine Hat has some great clay stuff going on, including an international residency in June.  I'll post some photos from it after the residents have fired these kilns!

Here's a picture of the two kilns at the end of the course.  They still need to have the doors bricked, the stacks completed, the gas fittings hooked up, the inside of the salt kiln glazed (to help protect the bricks from the corrosive salt), and a protective refractory material spread on the bottom of the firing chambers.  Not so bad looking though, are they?

What a great blog! It is a pity that I can not find RRS address. If RRS offers a subscription service, I can easily follow your blog!
